Aethan's son Daemon succeeded his father to both positions, serving under King Maegor I and Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Daemon's son Aethan succeeded him as Lord of the Tides, and eventually also became master of ships to King Aegon I. He died during the war in the battle in the waters off Gulltown.
Lord Daemon Velaryon of Driftmark was named the first master of ships by King Aegon I Targaryen at the start of Aegon's Conquest.
